Application Engineer III
Swiss ReJob Description
Application Engineer III
Application Engineer III
Are you an engineer who loves solving complex problems, thrives at the intersection of technology and business, and gets excited about building solutions that make a real difference? If you move fluidly between application development, data analysis, and AI-driven innovation — and you're energised by turning complex business challenges into elegant, scalable solutions — this could be exactly the role you've been looking for!
About the Role
As an Application Engineer III within the P&C Data Analytics team, you will be a key technical force — partnering with Risk Consultants, clients, and product stakeholders to solve real-world business problems through smart application engineering, deep data analysis, and AI-enabled innovation. This is not a role where you sit in a silo. You'll be at the centre of it all — designing and developing .NET-based APIs and integrations within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, diving into complex datasets to uncover insights, and driving automation and AI initiatives that genuinely move the needle. If you're someone who thrives on variety, loves a challenge, and brings both technical depth and business curiosity to the table, you'll feel right at home here.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and support robust .NET APIs, integrations, and data-driven applications that are scalable, reliable, and built to last
Analyse complex datasets using advanced SQL to investigate intricate business scenarios, validate outcomes, identify root causes, and deliver clear, data-driven recommendations
Identify and deliver automation opportunities that meaningfully improve efficiency, quality, and productivity across the team and business
Drive automation and AI initiatives — including exploration of tools such as GitHub Copilot — to improve operational efficiency and unlock better business outcomes
Collaborate closely with Risk Consultants, Product Managers, and clients to translate business requirements into practical, impactful technical solutions
Independently determine the best technical approach for new challenges, demonstrating strong problem-solving instincts and a self-driven working style
Contribute to technical innovation by staying current with emerging technologies and proactively bringing fresh ideas to the team
About the Team
This role sits within the Risk Consulting & Analytics technology team, part of the Risk Data Solutions (RDS) business at Swiss Re. RDS delivers a broad range of premium products, unmatched offerings, and tailored solutions to clients across the globe. With deep market closeness and a thorough understanding of key risk drivers, the team identifies emerging trends in the risk landscape early and develops innovative reinsurance solutions in close collaboration with clients. Our teams bring together global expertise and local knowledge to craft solutions that truly make a difference — for our clients and for the world.
About You
You're a proactive, versatile engineer who blends strong application development expertise with sharp analytical thinking and genuine business curiosity. You enjoy untangling complex problems, quickly grasp what stakeholders need, and confidently turn those needs into effective technical solutions. You're equally comfortable diving deep into a dataset as you are architecting an API — and you bring energy and enthusiasm to everything you do. You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences, adapt quickly to shifting priorities, and approach every challenge with a continuous learning mindset.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
8–10 years of experience in application development, software engineering, or related technology roles
Strong hands-on experience with .NET, REST APIs, Microsoft Azure, Azure DevOps, and SQL — with a proven track record of delivering production-grade solutions
Proven ability to analyse complex datasets, investigate issues, and derive meaningful, actionable business insights
Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and supporting APIs, integrations, and data-driven applications end-to-end
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to independently assess situations and determine the best path forward
These are additional nice to haves:
Experience with Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and Python for data processing, analytics, and automation
Familiarity with modern front-end technologies such as React or Angular, and a solid understanding of front-end application development
Exposure to automation initiatives, AI-enabled solutions, and tools such as GitHub Copilot
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
A natural curiosity and adaptability, with a genuine passion for continuous learning and staying ahead of the technology curve
