Director of Software Engineering - Data Center Networks , Core WAN & DDI
As a Senior Principal Infrastructure Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Network Services Team aligned to Infrastructure Platforms division, you apply your deep engineering knowledge of software, applications, technical systems, and technical processes across multiple specialized disciplines to build and deliver trusted secure, stable, and scalable technical solutions. Consistently drive adoption and implementation of technical methods in specialized fields or areas in line with product development methodologies.
Job responsibilities
- Applies technical expertise to multiple large scope strategic projects with enterprise-wide impact to influence, manage and implement strategic technology platforms and advises on and leads the development and strategy of multiple projects
- Leads reuse-first adoption of enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to accelerate infrastructure architecture analysis and strategic option evaluation across enterprise-impact initiatives, with human-in-the-loop validation and appropriate handling of sensitive data.
- Collaborates to drive positive, lasting organizational, operational and technological change and partners across other platforms to architect and implement changes required to resolve issues and modernize the organization and technology processes
- Drives thought leadership throughout the organization
- Considers financial implication of staffing, budget, and relevant profit and loss
- Establishes portfolio-level guardrails for AI-assisted workflows used in infrastructure engineering delivery and automation routines, ensuring traceability/auditability and alignment to resiliency, security, and risk expectations.
- Formal training or certification on infrastructure engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience
- Extensive knowledge and experience in two or more areas of infrastructure engineering such as: hardware, networking terminology, databases, storage engineering, deployment practices, integration, automation, scaling, resilience, and performance assessments
- Demonstrated experience leading safe adoption of enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment across infrastructure engineering workflows, including validation practices and awareness of data sensitivity.
- Ability to define review and approval and escalation expectations for AI-assisted recommendations aligned to resiliency, security, and auditability outcomes.
- Extensive knowledge of multiple infrastructure technologies and programming languages, including extensive automation experience
- Proven ability to conceptualize, launch, and deliver multiple IT projects on time and within budget ; Experience managing and developing budgets
- Adept at partnering closely with, and acting as a trusted advisor to, stakeholders across the firm ; Experience building and maintaining a robust risk and controls environment, including governance, compliance execution, exception management, and high-risk change review practices.
- Demonstrated experience owning and operating enterprise-grade WAN/connectivity platforms, including routing, resiliency, capacity management, and secure connectivity services.
- Ability to set technical direction, make high-impact design decisions, and lead end-to-end delivery across architecture, engineering, certification, and production rollout.
- Proven track record driving platform modernization initiatives (e.g., backbone evolution, performance upgrades, and cloud/hybrid connectivity expansion) with a focus on scalability and long-term sustainability.
Strong background improving stability through disciplined incident problem management, repeat-issue remediation, runbook/standard operating procedure maturity, and measurable reliability improvements.
- Hands-on capability to implement automation for validation, monitoring/telemetry, reporting, and workflow efficiency; comfort using data to prioritize work and track outcomes.
- Ability to partner effectively with security, risk/control functions, peer technology teams, and business stakeholders to align priorities and manage trade-offs.
- Experience shaping vendor strategy, managing third-party relationships, and holding partners accountable for delivery and outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). Advanced degree is a plus. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., networking, cloud, security) preferred.
