Summary

We are seeking an API Gateway Architect to own the organizationwide migration from Apigee to AWS API Gateway This role reviews the current Apigee estate across all teams and services defines the targetstate architecture and standards on AWS and establishes the patterns governance and observability foundation that every team will adopt A key focus is replacing capabilities Apigee provides out of the box analytics reporting developer portal with equivalent AWSnative solutions

Required Skills

Deep production experience with both Apigee Edge and AWS API Gateway at scale

Proven track record architecting and governing API platforms across multiple teams or business units

Strong AWS platform expertise API Gateway Lambda CloudWatch IAM VPC Route 53 multiaccount strategy

Strong background designing observability and reporting architectures logging pipelines metrics ing and distributed tracing for API platforms at scale

Deep API security expertise OAuth2OIDC JWT validation mTLS API keys WAF

Strong infrastructureascode and reusablemodule design Terraform CDK CloudFormation

Ability to set standards write reference architectures and enable engineering teams not just build

Key Responsibilities

Assess the entire Apigee estate across the organization routing rate limiting quotas spike arrest security policies API keys OAuthJWT transformations and how teams currently consume shared gateway capabilities

Perform an orgwide featureparity gap analysis between Apigee and AWS API Gateway identifying capabilities that must be rebuilt or standardized in AWS particularly reporting analytics and developerportal functionality

Define the targetstate reference architecture for AWS API Gateway that all teams will adopt REST vs HTTP API standards authorizer patterns LambdaCognitoIAM usage plans WAF integration custom domains and multiaccountmultistage deployment models

Design and standardize the organizations API observability strategy end to end covering logging metrics ing and distributed tracing so that reporting and performance visibility lost from Apigee is fully recovered on AWS

Establish a reusable orgwide logcapture and reporting pipeline from API Gateway through to a centralized analyticssearch platform with standardized log formats retention policies and shared dashboards for traffic latency error rates and perconsumer usage

Define realtime ing and healthmonitoring standards separate from longterm log analytics ensuring operational teams can detect and respond to issues quickly

Set orgwide governance and standards security baselines API design guidelines versioning tagging and costmanagement practices

Define the reusable infrastructureascode foundation Terraform modules CDK constructs that teams consume to provision gateways and observability tooling consistently

Own the migration roadmap and sequencing across teams phased cutover canarybluegreen coexistence period with clear rollback strategies

Provide architectural guidance review designs and enable engineering teams throughout the migration

Partner with security infrastructure and platform leadership on nonfunctional requirements compliance and audit logging

Nice to Have

Prior experience leading an orgwide migration off Apigee or another API management platform

Experience defining API governance frameworks and developer enablement

Familiarity with distributed tracing tools and centralized loganalytics platforms
