Job Title: Retail Store Assistant – Pharmacy
Department: Retail Pharmacy / Store Operations
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Pattern: 24-Hour Pharmacy Operations
Shift Duration: 10 Hours per Shift
Reporting To: Store Manager
Job Summary:
We are looking for a responsible, customer-focused, and detail-oriented Retail Store Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of a 24-hour pharmacy. The role includes customer service, billing, inwarding and receiving stock, inventory management, product arrangement, expiry management,home-deliveries, and general store operations.
The employee will work on a rotating roster of 10-hour shifts, including day, evening/night shifts, Sundays, and public holidays as per operational requirements. Weekly offs will be provided on a rotational basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stock Inwarding & Receiving: Receive medicines, healthcare products, and other pharmacy/store supplies from authorized suppliers.
- Verify incoming stock against the purchase order, invoice, delivery challan, or other applicable documents.
- Check product name, quantity, batch number, expiry date, MRP, and physical condition of received products.
- Identify and report shortages, excess quantities, damaged products, wrong items, or discrepancies to the Store Manager.
- Ensure proper inward entry in the pharmacy software/system and generate or support GRN (Goods Receipt Note) as applicable.
- Ensure received products are appropriately labeled and transferred to the designated storage/shelf area.
- Follow required procedures for cold-chain or temperature-sensitive products and immediately escalate any temperature or storage concern.
- Ensure proper documentation and filing of inward-related records.
- Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams regarding stock discrepancies when required.
Inventory & Stock Management:
- Arrange products systematically according to category, product type, and designated storage locations.
- Follow FEFO (First Expiry, First Out) principles for stock rotation.
- Regularly check expiry dates and identify near-expiry, expired, damaged, or non-saleable products.
- Assist in physical stock counts, cycle counts, and periodic inventory audits.
- Monitor stock levels and report low-stock, excess-stock, or fast-moving items to the supervisor.
- Maintain accuracy of physical stock against system inventory.
- Assist with stock transfers, returns, replacements, and other inventory-related activities as authorized.
- Ensure medicines and other products are stored under the required conditions and in designated locations.
Customer Service & Sales Support:
- Greet and assist customers professionally.
- Help customers locate medicines, healthcare products, personal care products, and other store items.
- Operate the billing/POS system and process transactions accurately.
- Handle cash, card, UPI/digital payments, and other approved payment methods.
- Escalate prescription-related, clinical, or medical queries to the pharmacist on duty.
- Maintain professional and courteous communication with customers at all times.
Store Operations:
- Maintain shelves, counters, storage areas, and customer areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Ensure proper product display, shelf labeling, and merchandising.
- Support opening, closing, and shift-handover procedures as applicable.
- Ensure all pending activities, stock discrepancies, inward issues, customer matters, and operational concerns are properly communicated during shift handover.
- Report equipment, security, safety, maintenance, or operational issues promptly.
- Follow all pharmacy, company, safety, hygiene, and operational SOPs.
24-Hour Shift Responsibilities:
The pharmacy operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The employee must be flexible and willing to work according to the assigned roster.
- Work 10-hour rotating shifts.
- Shifts may include day, evening, and night shifts.
- Work on Sundays and public holidays as per the roster.
- Weekly off will be provided on a rotational basis and may fall on any day of the week.
- Be prepared for rotation between day and night shifts based on operational requirements.
- Report on time and complete proper handover before leaving the shift.
- Ensure continuity of store operations during night and low-staff periods.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum qualification: 10th/12th standard or equivalent.
- Previous experience in pharmacy retail, medical store, hospital pharmacy, supermarket, or retail operations is preferred.
- Experience in stock inwarding, inventory handling, billing, and POS operations will be an advantage.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced 24-hour retail environment.
- Willingness to work rotational day/night shifts, Sundays, and holidays.

- Accuracy of stock inwarding and GRN entries.
- Accuracy of quantity, batch, expiry, and MRP verification.
- Inventory accuracy and reduction of stock discrepancies.
- Proper expiry and FEFO management.
- Billing and transaction accuracy.
- Customer service and satisfaction.
- Timely completion of assigned store activities.
- Adherence to SOPs and pharmacy procedures.
- Attendance, punctuality, and roster compliance.
- Quality of shift handover and teamwork.
Important Note:
This is a non-clinical retail support position. The Retail Store Assistant must not provide medical advice, recommend prescription medicines, or perform duties requiring a pharmacist's professional qualification or authorization. All clinical, prescription, or medication-related queries must be referred to the pharmacist on duty.
The employee is required to work as per the 24-hour rotating roster, including 10-hour day/night shifts, Sundays, public holidays, and rotational weekly offs, subject to applicable company policies and labour laws.
