HVAC Field Technician – Job Description

An HVAC Field Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, commissioning, operation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems. The technician ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, project specifications, and applicable industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, test, commission, and maintain HVAC equipment including VRF/VRV systems, ductable split units, package units, AHUs, FCUs, chillers, cooling towers, ventilation and exhaust systems.
• Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of compressors, motors, fans, pumps, control panels, thermostats, and associated HVAC components.
• Diagnose and rectify electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration faults using appropriate testing instruments.
• Carry out refrigerant charging, leak detection, pressure testing, vacuuming, and recovery procedures in accordance with industry best practices.
• Install and repair refrigerant copper piping, condensate drain piping, ductwork, insulation, dampers, and air distribution accessories.
• Monitor system performance, air flow, temperature, pressure, voltage, current, and other operating parameters to ensure optimum efficiency.
• Read and interpret HVAC drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and site procedures while carrying out field activities.
• Prepare service reports, maintenance records, inspection checklists, and commissioning documentation.
• Coordinate effectively with clients, consultants, supervisors, and other site personnel to complete work within the scheduled time.
• Maintain tools, testing instruments, and equipment in good working condition while ensuring a clean and safe work environment.
