Job Description


A phlebotomist draws blood and other specimens from patients for laboratory testing, transfusions, or donations. [1, 2, 3]



Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Interaction: Greet patients, verify identification, explain the procedure, and calm anxious individuals.
  • Specimen Collection: Perform venipunctures, finger sticks, or heel sticks using sterile techniques.
  • Sample Labeling & Handling: Accurately label, store, and transport vials to laboratories while maintaining sample integrity.
  • Sanitation & Safety: Follow strict infection-control protocols, dispose of needles safely, and keep work areas clean.
  • Record Keeping: Enter patient data, test requisitions, and collection logs into computer databases.
