Automotive Service Advisor

An Automotive Service Advisor acts as the primary liaison between customers and service technicians, managing vehicle service requests, providing estimates, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Automotive Service Advisors are responsible for greeting customers, understanding their vehicle issues, and communicating these concerns to service technicians. They schedule appointments, manage work in progress, and explain service costs to customers, ensuring transparency and clarity throughout the repair or maintenance process Additional duties include:

• Booking vehicles for servicing and tracking progress of repairs 
• Managing customer relationships via face-to-face interactions, phone, and email 
• Administering and organizing service delivery while maintaining manufacturer and dealership standards 
• Ordering parts, coordinating with the parts department, and managing stock 
• Providing technical advice and guidance to customers about necessary repairs or maintenance 
• Handling customer complaints and ensuring satisfaction with services provided 
• Performing administrative tasks such as processing payments and maintaining customer records.

Required Skills and Qualifications

A successful Automotive Service Advisor should possess:

• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients and build trust 
• Knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance, enabling them to explain technical issues in simple terms 
• Organizational and multitasking abilities to manage appointments, work orders, and follow-ups efficiently Kaplan.
• Experience in face-to-face customer service, ideally within a dealership or automotive environment 
• Basic computer skills for managing service records, scheduling, and communication 
• A valid driver’s license and clean driving record may be required 

Work Environment

Service Advisors typically work in auto dealerships, repair shops, or service centers, often in office settings adjacent to the service area. The role may involve exposure to loud noises, vehicle fumes, and a fast-paced environment. They report to the Service Manager and work closely with technicians to ensure timely and accurate service delivery .
