Fire Safety Officer

Key Roles & Responsibilities

A. Fire Prevention & Compliance

•      Ensure compliance with National Building Code (NBC), Factory Act, NFPA standards, and local Fire Service Rules.

•      Conduct regular fire risk assessments, safety audits, and workplace inspections.

•      Maintain all statutory licenses, NOCs, and documentation required by the Fire Department.

•      Ensure availability, serviceability, and periodic testing of all fire protection systems - Fire hydrants, sprinklers, fire pumps, extinguishers, fire alarm & detection systems (FAS/FPS).

B. Training & Awareness

•      Organize and conduct fire safety training, toolbox talks, evacuation drills, and mock drills for all employees, contractors, and visitors.

•      Train the Emergency Response Team (ERT) on use of fire extinguishers, SCBA, fire hydrant operation, and rescue techniques.

•      Create and display fire safety awareness material, evacuation maps, and assembly point signage.

C. Emergency Response

•      Act as Incident Controller during fire emergencies; lead firefighting, rescue operations, and evacuation.

•      Investigate all fire incidents, near-misses, and false alarms - prepare root cause analysis (RCA) and CAPA reports.

•      Coordinate with local fire brigade, hospitals, and emergency services.

D. Documentation & Reporting

•      Maintain logbooks for fire extinguisher inspection, hydrant pressure testing, pump testing, fire alarm testing.

•      Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly fire safety reports for management.

•      Manage inventory of fire safety PPE and equipment and raise indents for replacement/repair.

E. System Maintenance

•      Coordinate with vendors for Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) of fire safety systems.

•      Ensure hot work permits, confined space permits, and other work permit systems are followed with fire safety precautions.
