Senior Power BI Developer

JOB DESCRIPTION | 6+ YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Power BI Developer with 6+ years of overall Business Intelligence and Data Analytics experience. The candidate should have strong hands-on expertise in designing, developing, deploying, and supporting enterprise-level Power BI solutions, with advanced skills in Power BI, DAX, Power Query, data modeling, SQL, performance optimization, security, and deployment.

The candidate should be able to work directly with business stakeholders, understand reporting requirements, and translate them into scalable, secure, and user-friendly dashboards and analytical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Gathering and documenting requirements with business requestors (KPIs, filters, security, refresh needs)
• Designing and building Power BI reports and dashboards
• Building and modifying semantic models: star-schema modeling, DAX measures, calculation groups, row-level security (RLS)
• Data preparation in Fabric: Lakehouse and Warehouse tables, Dataflows Gen2, Data Pipelines and notebooks (PySpark/SQL) as needed for a report
• Power Query (M) transformations and connections through approved on-premises data gateways
• Performance tuning of existing reports and models (Performance Analyzer, DAX Studio, VertiPaq Analyzer)
• Enhancements and defect fixes on existing team-owned reports
• Report documentation, data dictionaries and end-user handoff notes
• Gather and analyze business requirements and translate them into effective reporting and analytics solutions.
• Develop complex calculations, KPIs, and business logic using DAX.
• Build efficient data transformation and cleansing processes using Power Query and M language.
• Design dimensional data models using star schema and snowflake schema concepts.
• Create calculated columns, measures, drill-through reports, bookmarks, tooltips, and intuitive report navigation.
• Optimize Power BI reports, semantic models, DAX queries, and datasets for performance and usability.
• Develop and troubleshoot complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and data transformations.
• Provide production support, root-cause analysis, and timely resolution of reporting issues.

Required Technical Skills

• 5+ years building enterprise Power BI reports and semantic models
• Advanced DAX and data modeling (star schema, RLS, calculation groups, composite models)
• Power Query (M) and SQL (T-SQL and Fabric Warehouse / SQL endpoint)
• Hands-on Microsoft Fabric: Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2, Data Pipelines, notebooks
• Performance tuning with DAX Studio, Tabular Editor and VertiPaq Analyzer
• Direct experience gathering requirements with business stakeholders

Performance and Optimization Experience

• Identify and resolve slow-performing reports and visuals.
• Optimize complex DAX measures and data-model relationships.
• Reduce unnecessary model size and high-cardinality columns.
• Understand relationship direction, filter propagation, and query behavior.
• Select appropriate Import, DirectQuery, or composite-model approaches.
• Optimize report visuals, SQL queries, semantic models, and refresh performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 6+ years of overall experience in Business Intelligence, reporting, analytics, or data solutions.
• Strong hands-on experience developing enterprise Power BI solutions.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and within distributed development and support teams.
