Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Power BI Team Lead with 7–8 years of experience in Business Intelligence, reporting, and data analytics. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft Power BI and SQL, along with proven experience in leading a team, managing end-to-end reporting deliveries, and working directly with business stakeholders.

The candidate will be responsible for translating business requirements into scalable and insightful Power BI solutions, ensuring data accuracy and performance, providing technical guidance to the team, and driving delivery within agreed timelines.

Exposure to Data Engineering and Advanced Excel will be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities
1. Power BI Development & Solution Design
Lead the design, development, and deployment of Power BI dashboards, reports, and analytical solutions.
Develop complex DAX measures, calculated columns, KPIs, and analytical logic.
Design optimized Power BI data models using Star Schema and dimensional modelling principles.
Implement appropriate relationships, hierarchies, calculated tables, and reusable semantic models.
Optimize Power BI reports and datasets for performance and scalability.
Implement and manage Power BI Service, workspaces, apps, deployment pipelines, refresh schedules, and gateways.
Implement appropriate Row-Level Security (RLS) and access controls.
Establish and promote Power BI development standards, best practices, and reusable frameworks.
Review solutions developed by team members and provide technical feedback.
2. SQL & Data Analysis
Develop complex and optimized SQL queries, stored procedures, views, CTEs, and analytical queries.
Work with relational databases and large datasets to extract, transform, and validate data.
Perform data profiling, reconciliation, and root-cause analysis for reporting issues.
Optimize SQL queries and identify opportunities to improve data retrieval and reporting performance.
Work closely with data engineering teams to understand source systems, data pipelines, and data structures.
Ensure data quality and consistency across reporting solutions.
3. Team Leadership & Delivery Management
Lead and mentor a team of Power BI developers / BI analysts.
Allocate tasks based on team capabilities, priorities, and project timelines.
Conduct code and solution reviews to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
Track project deliverables, dependencies, risks, and issues.
Provide technical guidance and support for complex development challenges.
Support team members in troubleshooting Power BI, SQL, data modelling, and performance-related issues.
Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions and promote continuous technical learning within the team.
Participate in performance feedback and development discussions for team members, as applicable.
4. Data Engineering & Integration – Good to Have
Understand ETL/ELT concepts, data pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes.
Work with data engineering teams to define reporting data requirements.
Understand concepts such as incremental loads, data transformations, data quality checks, and pipeline dependencies.
Exposure to Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Databricks, or similar data engineering technologies will be an advantage.
Contribute to designing efficient data flows between source systems, data platforms, and Power BI.
6. Excel & Reporting – Good to Have
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, Power Query, advanced formulas, and data analysis.
Ability to analyze and reconcile data using Excel during reporting development and validation.
Experience in migrating or automating Excel-based reporting into Power BI will be an advantage.

Mandatory Technical Skills
7–8 years of overall experience in BI / Reporting / Data Analytics.
Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI.
Advanced knowledge of DAX.
Strong understanding of Power BI Data Modelling and Star Schema.
Strong hands-on experience with SQL.
Experience with Power BI Service, workspaces, publishing, refreshes, and security.
Experience in developing enterprise-level dashboards and reports.
Strong understanding of data validation and reconciliation.
Experience leading or mentoring a team of BI / Power BI professionals.
