EY GDS – Data and Analytics (D&A) – Techno-Functional Data Modeller and Analyst – Insurance (Senior Con.)

As part of our EY-GDS D&A (Data and Analytics) team, we help our clients solve complex business challenges with the help of data and technology. We dive deep into data to extract the greatest value and discover opportunities in key business and functions like Banking, Insurance, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Retail, Manufacturing and Auto, Supply Chain, and Finance

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Techno-Functional Data Consultant with strong expertise in Insurance Data Management, Data Modelling, Business Analysis, Reporting & Analytics, and Data Migration. The ideal candidate will act as a bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, translating business requirements into scalable data solutions that support operational, analytical, and reporting needs.

The role requires hands-on experience in Data Vault modelling, dimensional modelling, data analysis, reporting tools, and insurance data domains. Experience working within the UK Insurance Marke t is highly desirable.

Your Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis & Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with business users, SMEs, architects, and delivery teams to gather and document functional and data requirements.
• Conduct workshops to understand business processes, reporting needs, and data challenges.
• Translate business requirements into functional specifications, data models, and reporting solutions.
• Perform impact assessments and support change management activities.
• Act as the key liaison between business and technology teams.

Data Analysis & Data Management

• Perform data profiling, gap analysis, and source-to-target data mapping.
• Analyse large and complex datasets to identify data quality issues and transformation requirements.
• Define business rules, validation rules, and reconciliation requirements.
• Support data governance, metadata management, and data lineage initiatives.
• Ensure consistency and integrity of data across operational and analytical platforms.

Data Modelling

• Design and maintain Conceptual Data Models, Logical Data Models and Physical Data Models
• Develop and maintain enterprise data models and data dictionaries.
• Design scalable data structures for operational and analytical solutions.
• Implement best practices in:
  • Data Vault 2.0 Modelling (Hubs, Links, Satellites)
  • Dimensional Modelling (Star Schema, Snowflake Schema)
  • Canonical Data Models
  • Enterprise Data Models
• Collaborate with Data Architects and Engineering teams to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards.

Reporting & Analytics

• Gather and define reporting and dashboard requirements from business stakeholders.
• Design reporting data models and analytical datasets.
• Support development and optimization of business intelligence solutions.
• Work closely with analytics teams to ensure accurate and meaningful reporting outputs.
• Define KPIs, metrics, and reporting standards.

Data Migration & Integration

• Support large-scale data migration and transformation programmes.
• Develop source-to-target mapping specifications.
• Define migration and reconciliation rules.
• Support SIT, UAT, and production validation activities.
• Work alongside Data Engineering and Integration teams to ensure successful delivery.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

Insurance Domain Expertise

• Strong understanding of insurance business processes and data structures.
• Experience in Policy Administration, Underwriting, Claims, Billing & Finance, Customer Management, Broker Management and Reinsurance

Data & Business Analysis

• Strong business and data analysis skills.
• Experience gathering and documenting business requirements.
• Expertise in data mapping, profiling, and validation.
• Strong understanding of data governance and data quality frameworks.

Data Modelling (Mandatory)

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on data modelling experience.
• Strong expertise in:
  • Data Vault 2.0
  • Dimensional Modelling
  • Relational Data Modelling
  • Data Warehousing Concepts
• Experience using modelling tools such as:
  • ERwin
  • ER/Studio
  • SAP PowerDesigner
  • Visio
  • Lucidchart

Reporting & BI Tools

Hands-on experience with one or more reporting and analytics platforms like Power BI, MicroStrategy (MSTR), Tableau, Qlik Sense/QlikView, SSRS

Technical Skills

• Advanced SQL (mandatory)
• Strong understanding of Data Warehousing, ETL/ELT Processes, Data Integration, APIs and Data Interfaces
• Experience with databases like SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Azure SQL
• Exposure to at least one cloud platforms: Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

Good to Have

• Experience within the UK Insurance market, including General Insurance, London Market Insurance, Syndicate and MGA environments London Market Insurance

Experience

• 7+ years of experience in Data Analysis, Business Analysis, Data Consulting, and Data Management.
• 5+ years of Data Modelling experience, including Data Vault modelling.
• Experience delivering data migration, reporting, or digital transformation programmes.
• Insurance industry experience is mandatory.
• UK Insurance market experience is highly desirable.
