Service Engineer

Location: Raigarh, Chattisgarh, Angul, Odisha, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand

Role Summary

We need a field service engineer who can carry out site audits, installation and commissioning, breakdown service, and periodic maintenance of Belt Maintenance products of Martin Engineering, USA. The engineer will be the primary technical contact for customers in steel, power, and mining industries.

We also need another service engineer experienced with installing, maintaining Thruster Brakes. We will providing thruster brakes for Ringspann Germany

Key Responsibilities

Site audit and assessment

Conduct detailed audits of conveyor systems to identify carryback, spillage, dust, tracking, and belt cleaning issues.

Assess existing belt cleaning and tracking equipment and recommend upgrades or replacements.

Record audit findings with photographs, measurements, and a prioritized action plan.

Prepare audit reports with cost-benefit notes to support customer decision-making and sales team.

Detailed study of existing brakes of customer, check feasibility for replacing with Ringspann Thruster Brakes

Installation and commissioning

Install and align Martin Engineering products, including primary and secondary belt cleaners, tensioners, skirting, impact beds, and dust suppression systems.

Verify installation against drawings and manufacturer specifications, including blade pressure, tension, and clearance settings.

Commission equipment, perform trial runs, and hand over to the customer’s operations team with documented settings.

Provide on-site training to customer maintenance and operations personnel.

Service and breakdown support

Respond to customer service calls and diagnose conveyor problems such as belt mistracking, premature blade wear, and material build-up.

Carry out repairs and component replacements, and resolve issues to minimize downtime.

Perform root-cause analysis for recurring failures and recommend long-term fixes.

Maintain accurate service logs and close out each customer complaint with a service report.

Periodic and preventive maintenance

Plan and execute scheduled maintenance visits as per the agreed service calendar.

Inspect and replace wear parts such as blades at defined intervals.

Check and record conveyor performance parameters and flag potential issues before they cause breakdowns.

Prepare maintenance schedules and spares forecasts for customers on annual maintenance contracts (AMC).

Customer and business support

Coordinate with sales, spares, and procurement teams for quotations, spares dispatch, and escalations.

Maintain a customer equipment register with installation dates, service history, and next due dates.

Requirements

Qualifications: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent industrial qualification).

Experience: 3 to 6 years of hands-on experience with belt conveyor systems in mining, cement, steel, power, or port industries.

Separately: 1-2 yeas handling thruster brakes

Prior exposure to conveyor components such as belt cleaners, idlers, pulleys, take-ups, and belt tracking systems.

Experience with Martin Engineering products or comparable conveyor cleaning and tracking systems is strongly preferred.

Prior experience conducting site audits or condition assessments is an advantage.

Technical skills

Ability to read mechanical drawings and general arrangement layouts.

Competence with alignment tools, torque tools, tension gauges, and basic measuring instruments.

Strong troubleshooting skills for belt conveyor systems.

Working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and report writing; familiarity with CRM or service management tools is a plus.

Personal attributes

Willingness to travel extensively across India, including remote industrial sites.

Strong communication skills in English and Hindi; ability to explain technical findings clearly to plant managers and operators.

Safety-first mindset with working knowledge of LOTO (lock out, tag out), working at height, and confined space practices.

Self-driven, organized, and comfortable managing multiple customer sites with limited supervision.
