JOB DESCRIPTIONSHEET METAL QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTOR

1. Job Title Quality Control Inspector – Sheet Metal

2. Department Quality Control / Quality Assurance

3. Reports To Quality Manager / QA-QC Manager

4. Job PurposeTo ensure that sheet metal products are manufactured according to approved drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards by performing inspection and controlling defects at incoming, in-process, and final stages.

5. Key Responsibilities Incoming Material Inspection

• Inspect raw materials such as MS, SS, GI, aluminium, and other sheet metals.
• Verify material grade, thickness, size, quantity, and material certificates where applicable.
• Check materials for rust, dents, scratches, bends, and other visible defects.

In-Process Inspection

• Inspect components after laser cutting, shearing, punching, bending, welding, grinding, and other processes.
• Verify dimensions according to approved drawings.
• Check bend angle, bend position, hole diameter, pitch, flatness, and overall dimensions.
• Monitor critical-to-quality dimensions during production.
• Identify and report process deviations immediately.

Final Inspection

• Perform final dimensional and visual inspection before dispatch.
• Verify product quantity and identification.
• Check surface finish, weld quality, burrs, sharp edges, scratches, dents, distortion, and workmanship.
• Ensure products conform to customer specifications and approved drawings.

Quality Documentation

• Prepare inspection reports and maintain quality records.
• Maintain incoming, in-process, and final inspection records.
• Record non-conforming products and prepare rejection/rework reports.
• Maintain inspection instruments calibration records.
• Support preparation of NCR, CAPA, and corrective-action records.

Measuring Instruments

• Use and maintain measuring instruments such as:
• Vernier caliper
• Micrometer
• Height gauge
• Steel rule
• Measuring tape
• Bevel protractor
• Angle gauge
• Radius gauge
• Thread gauges
• Bore gauges, where applicable
• Ensure measuring instruments are within calibration validity.

Non-Conformance Control

• Identify defective or non-conforming products.
• Segregate rejected/rework material to prevent unintended use.
• Communicate quality problems to production and quality supervisors.
• Follow up on rework and verify the product after correction.

10. Qualification Minimum: ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Preferred: Diploma / Degree in Mechanical Engineering with experience in sheet metal manufacturing and quality inspection.

11. ExperienceTypical: 1–5 years of experience in sheet metal / fabrication / engineering manufacturing quality inspection.

• May require interaction with production, engineering, stores, and dispatch teams.
• Must follow PPE and workplace safety requirements at all times.
