Technician

About the Role

We are looking for skilled technicians who are experienced in cable harnessing to build, test and inspect wire harnesses and cable assemblies. The work must follow drawings exactly and meet high-quality standards set by customers and inspection agencies.

Key Responsibilities

•     Read and interpret harness drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, pin-out tables and the bill of materials (BOM).

•     Cut, strip and prepare wires and cables, including shielded, twisted-pair, coaxial and multi-core types.

•     Crimp contacts and terminals with the correct hand tools, dies and applicators. Do pull tests where required.

•     Solder wires to connector cups, terminals and PCBs to the required standard.

•     Assemble and terminate connectors such as D-Sub, Micro-D, circular MIL-DTL-38999/26482/5015, M12, BNC/SMA/TNC and terminal blocks.

•     Insert and extract contacts with the correct insertion and removal tools.

•     Build harnesses on formboards. Route, bundle, lace and tie them, and fit sleeving, braiding and heat-shrink boots.

•     Terminate shields and do grounding work, such as shield-to-backshell, 360° termination and drain wires.

•     Mark and label wires and harnesses with ferrules, heat-shrink markers and labels, as per the drawing.

•     Test for continuity, insulation resistance (IR) and hi-pot, using a multimeter, megger or harness tester.

•     Inspect your own work before handing it over. Find and fix wiring faults.

•     Keep traveller cards, test records and inspection reports up to date, and follow ESD and FOD control rules.

•     Support rework, first-article builds and customer or DGQA inspections when needed.

•     Keep the workstation, tools and crimp tools in order and follow 5S.

Required Skills

•     2+ years of hands-on cable harness or wire assembly experience, preferably in defence, aerospace, railway or automotive electronics.

•     Good crimping and soldering skills with consistent quality.

•     Able to read engineering drawings and wiring diagrams on your own.

•     Working knowledge of wire gauges (AWG), wire types (PTFE, ETFE, PVC) and connector families.

•     Familiar with testing instruments such as a DMM, megger, hi-pot tester and continuity tester.

•     Good eyesight, steady hands, patience and attention to detail.

Preferred

•     IPC/WHMA-A-620 training or certification. IPC J-STD-001 is a plus.

•     Exposure to MIL-standard connectors and military or aerospace build practices.

•     Experience working in an AS9100 or ISO 9001 environment.

•     Basic computer skills, such as Excel and filling in digital records.
