Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our automation team. In this role, you will design, simulate, and deploy custom automated machinery, robotic systems, and end-of-arm tooling (EOAT). You will take concepts from initial sketches through full 3D CAD modeling, component sourcing, assembly testing, and final deployment on the factory floor.

Core Responsibilities

• Custom Machine Design: Concept and detail 3D models of automated systems, rotary index tables, conveyors, gantries, and robotic fixtures using SolidWorks / Creo / Autodesk Inventor.
• Pneumatics & Actuation: Size and select linear actuators, servo motors, pneumatic cylinders, grippers, and vacuum systems based on payload and cycle time needs.
• Manufacturing Drawings: Generate detailed 2D production drawings with strict GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) for CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication.
• Component Sourcing: Create and manage structured Bills of Materials (BOMs); source off-the-shelf components from vendors like Misumi, Festo, SMC, and McMaster-Carr.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Controls/Electrical Engineers to integrate sensors, PLCs, and wiring paths seamlessly into your mechanical builds.
• Prototyping & Assembly: Support the shop floor technicians during the physical build, debug, and factory acceptance testing (FAT) phases.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience: 5+ years of proven experience designing custom factory automation, material handling, or robotic workcells.
• CAD Expertise: Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and dynamic assembly design.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturability), metal fabrication techniques, and precision alignment methods.
