Purchase Engineer

• Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify and evaluate suppliers for raw materials, components, spare parts, consumables, and engineering items.
• Review drawings, BOMs, specifications, and technical requirements before purchasing.
• Prepare and issue RFQs (Request for Quotation) to suppliers.
• Compare supplier quotations based on price, quality, lead time, payment terms, and technical compliance.
• Negotiate price, delivery schedules, payment terms, and commercial conditions.
• Prepare and release Purchase Orders (POs).
• Follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, Stores, Design, Maintenance, and Accounts.
• Develop alternate suppliers and maintain an approved supplier base.
• Monitor supplier performance regarding quality, cost, and delivery.
• Handle material shortages, delayed deliveries, quality issues, and purchase-related discrepancies.
• Support cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives.
• Maintain purchasing records, supplier quotations, POs, and other procurement documentation.
• Use ERP/MRP systems for material planning, purchasing, inventory, and order tracking.

Technical KnowledgeA Purchase Engineer should ideally understand:

• Engineering drawings and specifications
• BOM (Bill of Materials)
• Mechanical/electrical components
• Raw materials such as steel, aluminium, copper, plastics, etc.
• Machining, fabrication, casting, forging, sheet-metal processes
• Fasteners, bearings, motors, pumps, valves, electrical components, etc.
• Quality standards and inspection requirements
• Basic costing and manufacturing processes
• Inventory and material planning
• Supplier qualification and evaluation
