Job Summary
The Store Keeper / Purchaser will be responsible for managing day-to-day store and purchasing activities, including the receipt, storage, identification, preservation, and issue of raw materials, fabrication consumables, tools, spare parts, and other inventory items.
The role also involves coordinating with suppliers, obtaining quotations, placing and following up on purchase orders, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring the timely availability of materials for production and fabrication activities.
Key Responsibilities
Store Management
· Receive incoming materials and verify quantity, specifications, quality, and condition against purchase orders and delivery documents.
· Maintain accurate records of all materials received, issued, returned, and transferred.
· Store materials systematically with proper identification, labeling, and location control.
· Issue raw materials, welding consumables, tools, spare parts, and other items to fabrication and production teams against authorized material requests.
· Monitor stock levels and inform the concerned department when materials reach minimum stock levels.
· Conduct regular physical stock verification and reconcile discrepancies.
· Maintain inventory records using ERP software, inventory systems, or MS Excel.
· Ensure proper storage and preservation of steel plates, sections, pipes, welding electrodes, gases, fasteners, paints, cutting wheels, and other fabrication materials.
· Follow FIFO/FEFO practices wherever applicable.
· Maintain proper housekeeping, cleanliness, and safety standards within the store and warehouse.
· Control damaged, rejected, excess, and obsolete materials and maintain appropriate records.
· Ensure tools and equipment issued to employees are properly recorded and returned.
· Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly stock reports as required.
· Support internal and external audits and maintain all store-related documents and registers.
Purchasing / Procurement
· Coordinate with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and other departments to identify material and consumable requirements.
· Prepare purchase requests and purchase orders based on approved requirements.
· Source materials from approved and reliable suppliers.
· Obtain and compare supplier quotations based on price, quality, delivery time, and payment terms.
· Negotiate with suppliers for competitive prices and favorable delivery terms when required.
· Place purchase orders after obtaining the necessary approvals.
· Follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.
· Coordinate with suppliers regarding shortages, damaged materials, quality issues, and replacement requirements.
· Verify purchased materials against purchase orders and delivery documents upon receipt.
· Maintain proper records of quotations, purchase orders, delivery challans, invoices, and supplier communications.
· Coordinate with the Accounts Department regarding supplier invoices and payment documentation.
· Maintain an updated supplier/vendor database.
· Monitor pending purchase orders and ensure timely material availability for production.
· Assist management in identifying cost-saving opportunities and alternative suppliers where appropriate.
Required Qualifications
· ITI / Diploma / Graduate, preferably B.Com.
· Additional qualifications in Stores, Logistics, Procurement, or Supply Chain Management will be an advantage.
· 2–3 years of relevant experience in stores, warehouse, purchasing, or procurement operations.
· Experience in a fabrication, engineering, manufacturing, construction, or industrial company is preferred.
· Basic knowledge of fabrication materials such as MS/SS plates, pipes, angles, channels, welding electrodes, fasteners, cutting wheels, paints, gases, and other consumables.
· Good knowledge of inventory control, material handling, and stock documentation.
· Basic computer skills, particularly MS Excel.
· Experience with ERP, SAP, Tally, or other inventory/purchasing software will be an advantage.

Working Conditions
The Store Keeper / Purchaser may work in both warehouse/store and fabrication-shop environments. The position may require handling or coordinating the movement of heavy materials using appropriate lifting equipment and following all required safety procedures.
